Some things about the human body are just plain weird. Strange bumps pop up, your skin decides it wants to change colors in just one area, your hair falls out or your tongue just doesn’t look right with strange new bumps. There are plenty of things that simply require an immediate trip to the doctor but what will help you to have a little more peace about the whole thing is to learn how to examine your body. Not just knowing where things are (we hope you know that already!) but learning when to worry and when to just laugh.
The next several posts will go over the 14 exams you can and should perform on yourself and be familiar with. This of course does not mean you should forget seeing your doctor but it does mean you can better help yourself and your doctor if you have an idea of what you’re looking at and know some reasons why it looks that way. Unfortuneately there are still too many doctor visits that occur much too late because of a failure to recognize the NEED to get help. It’s not about being paranoid. It’s about being empowered. As has often been said….know thyself.
