Many women know when they have reached the phase of life known as menopause, but others have to get the official word from their Houston OBGYN before they really believe it. If you suspect that your body may be headed in that direction but you aren’t quite sure, it’s time to learn the symptoms of menopause so you can make an educated decision for your body.
One of the biggest signs of menopause is the absence or irregularity of periods. You are not considered an official menopausal woman until you have been without your period for a full year, but in many cases it starts with irregular periods that no longer come like clockwork. This starts happening to most women sometime after the age of 40, but it has been known to occur earlier for some women.
Another noticeable sign of menopause is the overproduction of sweat. You suddenly feel hot and start sweating even when there is no environmental reason to feel hot. Sweating profusely at night also may become a problem.
Other symptoms involve mood. Many menopausal women suffer from mood swings and just don’t feel like themselves. Emotionally, they are entering a new phase of their life.
If you think you may be joining the ranks of menopausal women, discuss it in private with Dr. Lisa Otey, Houston OBGYN. She is available through her website.
