You have to meet with a Houston OBGYN to officially get the recommendation for a hysterectomy, but you can determine on your own whether this procedure may be right for you. Just ask yourself one simple question: why do I want or think I need a hysterectomy?
There are right and wrong reasons to go through with this type of surgery. Most women go into it because it is a medical need recommended by their doctor. Here are some of the most common reasons doctors may recommend a hysterectomy:
- Cancer
- Fibroids
- Endometriosis
- Prolapsed Uterus
- Chronic Pelvic Pain
- Extreme Bleeding
If you are experiencing any of these things, then chances are you would be an ideal candidate for a hysterectomy. On the other hand, if you want to have a hysterectomy for one of the following reasons, you will probably not be an ideal candidate for the surgery:
- You are tired of having your period.
- You no longer want to worry about getting pregnant.
- You are worried about developing cancer in this region.
Notice that the presence of cancer is a good reason to go through a hysterectomy, but the fear of developing cancer is not a good reason.
You can discuss a hysterectomy and other issues in your private consultation with Houston OBGYN Dr. Lisa Otey. She is available through her website.
