The hysterectomy is one of the most feared surgeries in the world. When a woman is told by her Houston OBGYN that she needs to go through this type of procedure, the reaction is often mixed emotion. There is fear at the idea of someone cutting into her body and sadness at the thought of losing the uterus, ovaries, or both.
The problem is many women don’t know a lot about surgical hysterectomy. They know what it is. They may know someone else who has gone through it. Yet, they don’t know that there are multiple ways of doing a hysterectomy today. They also don’t know that very few women experience infection or serious health problems as a product of this type of surgery.
The hysterectomy is extremely safe today when performed by a skilled doctor with lots of experience. Once women realize this and learn all of their options, they tend to feel a bit more comfortable with the idea of going in for their surgery.
A hysterectomy is an option many women will choose not to go through with, even though it could greatly improve their quality of life. If more women knew how safe it was and that they have options, they might choose to improve their lives with the surgery.
